Banana Beach & Banana Rock
This beach you reach by long-tail-boat, the beach is situated right north of Bang Tao. At the beach you will be able to buy food from a small restaurant and snorkeling is possible from the beach. Most daytrips first go to Banana Rock, a small cliff outside in the sea where you will be granted to see a lot of fishes and if you threw some bred in the water which the local guides use to do you will have the fishes swimming all around you. This is a popular snorkeling trip.
Situated just south of Patong this beach are best reached by long-tail-boat. The beach is only about 85 meters (280 foot) long divided by rocks in one place. Snorkeling is good from the beach.
Just south of the Patong in the way to Karon, this beach are hidden far away from the road. This beach that is about 240 meters (800 foot) long can only be accessed by long-tail-boat. The beach has a restaurant and toilets and as everywhere on Phuket you will also find sun beds. Even though this is one of the most expensive places to spend your time in it might very well be worth it. The clean beach and the crystal clear water make this beach a magic location overlooking the horizon in the west. This beach is perfect for snorkeling.
This true paradise island situated a little more than 17 km (10 miles) south of Phuket is one of the most well known islands with its two famous beached, Siam Bay in the north, 500 meter (1600 foot) long, and Patok Bay in the north west, about 280 meters (900 foot). Both of these beaches are hidden inside U-shaped bays with arms reaching out in the water up to more than 800 meters (0.5 mile) away from the beach. On this island you can spend some days at one of the resorts. On the east side you will be able to find a few small beaches. The northern part of this island is very flat while in the south the mountains are rising over 250 meters (800 foot). Snorkeling is a dream outside these beaches and there are several great diving areas so a real dive into the big blue will make Raya island an even stronger memory. From Phuket to Raya it takes about 20 minutes by speed boat.
Phi Phi Islands
40 km (25 miles) east of Phuket these islands, Phi-Phi Don and Phi-Phi Leh, are located. With amazing beaches and scenery as a postcard with the classic rock formations rising up from the water this destination is one of the most amazing places there is. These famous islands got a big buzz after the movie The Beach with Leonardo Dicaprio and this is with no doubt the most famous island in this area. The biggest island, Phi Phi Don, offer a wide range of resorts restaurants and also a big night life. Most trips to Phi Phi depart from Phuket Town and takes about 1.5 hour with ferry and less than half the time by speed boat. The island has plenty of beaches and great mountain views. Phi-Phi Dons most famous beaches are Ton Sai Bay, Loh Dalam Bay, Loh Lana Bay and Loh Ba Kao Bay but there are plenty more wonderful beaches. The most famous sites on Phi Phi Leh are Maya Bay and Pileh where the last mentioned one is not a beach but a lagoon situated 500 meters (1700 foot) in from the open water with high mountains along the sides. At the most narrow part it is only 60 meters (180 foot) between the walls.
This national park consists of nine islands with perfect beaches and fantastic water. The islands are closed from 15 May until 1 November every year because of the big waves and strong winds that are common during the periods. There are no resorts available here but on the biggest island you can rent a small bungalow or a tent at the beach. Similan Islands are located about 100km (60 miles) north-west from Phuket and trips are offered at most beaches. The islands housing many rare species of marine animals and this spot is one of the best diving sports in the world. You might very well see big turtles, sting rays and many other extraordinary animals.
Attractions on Mainland
Laem Sing Beach
This small beach about 270 meters (890 foot) long is situated between Surin beach and Kamala. The beach has a few restaurants and massage places. Usually big waves are rolling in making the swimming very fun at the beach that at most parts get deep very quick. A small path leads from the road down about 150 meters (500 foot) down to the beach that is set 50 meters (160 foot) below the road. Remember to have respect for waves and if there is a red flag do not play in the water at all.
Ya Nui Beach
This small beach 160 meters (530 foot) is located just south of Nai Harn. The small hilly road takes you all the way to the beach that has sun beds and food available. This beach can give the impression to be smaller than it really is. The water here are normally very clear and due to the many rocks in the water this is a top snorkeling location. The water gets deep rather quick and windy days big waves can roll in. You will be offered to rent a diving mask if you happened to forgot yours.
The most famous temple area at Phuket. Here you find many temples and also a small market. Once a year in the end of January this area turns into a great market festival area with many thousands of people from all over Thailand. This festival is active for 8 days.
This is a theatre with a very good show set in Kamala with a wide range of cultural and historical elements. The show is perfect for all ages and includes many stunts, animals and theatre parts. Ask at your hotel and they will arrange so that the Phuket Fantasea will pick you up in any of their special designed minivans. This show is open all year round and is worth every single bath.
The only city on Phuket with about 80 000 habitants. For tourist it might be interesting to something else than just wonderful beaches and if you think so too, take a day in Phuket Town. Visit any of the big markets and why not go shipping in the outskirts at Central Festival or at Ocean. Central Festival has a lot of brand clothing and accessories while Ocean has a lot of more unknown brands.
