      Works as a postdoctoral fellow of the Research Foundation Flanders and teach international politics at the Free University Brussels His research focuses on the impact of China s rise on global politics, but he has also a strong interest in Europe s position in the changing global order The Dutch version of his latest book, How Europe Will Survive the Asian Century , came out in 2014 His first three books were Macht of Mythe VUB Press, 2007 China and India Prospects for Peace Columbia University Press, 2010 Trapped Giant Routledge, 2011 They were well received and widely reviewed in news media like The Economist, the Times, the Financial Times and Time Magazine His academic papers were picked up by journals like Survival, International Spectator, The Washington Quarterly, Journal of Strategic Studies, the Journal of Common Market Studies, Journal of Contemporary China, etc He contributed to various study projects organized by European and international institutions In 2007 and 2008, he was the coordinator of the EU China Academic Network ECAN , an academic forum established by the European Commission In 2007 and 2010, he worked as leader of a multidisciplinary research group that prepared several reports on China s foreign policy and economic transition for the European Parliament In 2008, he evaluated the EU s Asia Strategy for the European Commission In 2014, he became a Rockefeller Fellow of the Trilateral Commission, a member of the Council for Security Cooperation in the Asia Pacific and a Nobel Fellow at the Nobel Institute in Oslo He was also nominated into the World Economic Forum and participated in various young leader programmes, including those of South Korea, Japan, and Singapore He founded the Friday Group, a reflection group of young Belgian leaders, supported by the King Baudouin Foundation.
